Il Male, il Realismo Russo, Bosch e Brueghel

"Oggi è improprio parlare di 'brutto' e di 'cattivo' nell'arte, perché il 'cattivo' può essere più bello del 'buono': quanto spesso abbiamo visto che il cattivo ispira bellissime immagini e il buono soltanto episodi del peggior kitsch. [...] In molta 'arte degenerata' l'aspetto estetico prevale su quello etico; il compiacimento dell'orrorifico, del lubrico, del deforme è in grado di suscitare capolavori; mentre gli zuccherosi pensieri di un'ipocrita 'bontà' non producono che sterili paesaggini e sbiadite nature morte".

Questa l'opinione di Gillo Dorfles espressa sul Corriere della Sera di ieri in un articolo su "Il demoniaco nell'arte", saggio di Enrico Castelli. Un'idea che mi sento di condividere, perché spesso il Male è molto più interessante del Bene. L'ho sperimentato anche ieri sera vedendo la mostra "Verità e bellezza del Realismo Russo" a Potenza. I quadri più interessanti erano proprio quelli più cupi, dove le atmosfere del freddo russo si sposavano con tagli netti e ombre.

Sarà per questo che nel salotto di casa mia sono appese le stampe de "Il trionfo della morte" di Brueghel e "Il giardino delle delizie" di Bosch. Che l'orrore ci affascini è testimoniato non solo dai tanti romanzi, fumetti e film horror, ma anche dalla morbosa attenzione che la gente e i giornalisti hanno verso i delitti più efferati. Il Male è dunque dentro di noi? Dobbiamo respingerlo o cercare di conviverci e usarlo per migliorare?

[...[ In lot of the "degenerated art" the aesthetic aspect prevails on the moral one; the satisfaction for horror, slithery and unshapely can provoke master pieces; while the sugar thoughts of an hypocritical Good produce only unfertile landscapes and sad still lifes".

This is the opinion of Gillo Dorfles, written on the yesterday "Corriere della Sera" article about "The demoniac in art", essay by Enrico Castelli. An idea that I marry, because Evil often is more interesting then Good. I experimented this also yesterday evening when I went to see the exhibition "Truth and beauty of the Russian Realism" in Potenza. The most interesting paintings were the darkest ones, where the atmosferes of the russian cold melted with hard cuts and shadows.

Maybe is for this reason that in my sitting room I have the print of "The triumph of death" by Brueghel and "The delights' garden" by Bosch. The fascination of horro is testified not only by the many books, comics and horror movies, but also by the attention payed by the people and the journalists towards the most terrible homiceds. Evil is then inside us? Do we have to fight it or try to live with it and use it to be better?

Al Vittoriano a Roma una mostra celebra Paul Gauguin, intanto migliaia di ragazzi riempiono le strade di graffiti. Mantova si prepara a essere invasa da una folla di appassionati di fumetto e qualcuno in questo momento sta scarabocchiando qualcosa su un foglio. Tutto questo è arte, oppure no? Questo post, questo blog, il computer che si usa per leggere queste parole sono arte? Le parole stesse sono arte? Su un articolo apparso nell'ultimo numero di Focus si associava l'arte contemporanea alla provocazione e al fare le cose per primi. Secondo me oggi è più importante il processo creativo del risultato. Ciò che conta è il gesto. E voi che ne pensate? Tutto questo è arte, oppure no? Forse parlandone riusciremo a scoprire cosa c'è dietro la mela di Magritte...

On an article appeared in the last number of Focus contemporary art is associated with provocation and to be the first to do new things. For me today it's more important the creative process then the result. What matter is the gesture. What you think about this? Is all of this art, or not? Maybe talking about that we will discover what is hidden beyond Magritte's Apple...
